Ignite and HelpJoplinRebuild.com helped sponsor the I Am Joplin Event put on by the Joplin School District and Bright Futures. There was an amazing turn out at Missouri Southern State University as students from the Joplin R-8 school district had an opportunity to reconnect before starting their new year of school in brand new locations.
Many students had been relocated after the tornado that hit Joplin and did not have a normal summer. Many did not get to spend time with friends or do the things they would normally do. That is where the I Am Joplin Event came in; it gave them that opportunity at the end of the summer break to have some fun together.

Martha and many of her co-workers thought May 22, 2011 was nothing more than your normal Sunday at the local Mexican restaurant called El Vaquero. However, during Martha’s break, that all changed. The tornado came through and completely destroyed their building. Martha was fortunate to have survived major injuries from the building collapsing on her.

Greg is a volunteer that has been helping since shortly after the tornado in Joplin. He has been an outstanding help running security, helping clean, and assisting people on a daily basis. On Sunday, July 17, 2011 he was admitted to the hospital because his Aortic valve had been clogged. We pray that he gets well soon. Thank you Greg for your hard work.
